First-time rowers should consider their goals and read this article or others like it. It discusses how anaerobic exercise is superior to less-intense aerobic exercise. Following the CrossFit Endurance regimen is a great way to get an anaerobic burn. Remember to exercise like an athlete and not like a hamster on a treadmill.

CrossFit Endurance

4 x 500m, work:rest 1:1, hold all splits within 2-3 seconds

Concept2 – Short WOD

5000m with rate changes every 1000m: 24-26-28-26-24

Row for a total of 5000 meters at a sustainable intensity, varying your stroke rate as follows: row 1000 meters @ 24 spm, 1000 meters @ 26 spm, 1000 meters @ 28 spm, 1000 meters @ 26 spm, and 1000 meters @ 24 spm.
